Arizona Cardinals have a rare opportunity in final four games
By Sion Fawkes
The Arizona Cardinals are practically out of playoff contention, but they have a rare opportunity in the last four weeks of the season.
The 2022 Arizona Cardinals have been in a state of turmoil unlike any other. Forget Hard Knocks, even the best screenwriters couldn’t concoct a drama that has faced the Redbirds all season. But that doesn’t mean the Cardinals need to start thinking about their offseason plans just yet.
There are still four games to play in 2022, and plenty of opportunity for young players to receive more playing time. Players like Trey McBride, Myjai Sanders, and Cam Thomas have a chance to prove that they have grown throughout their respective rookie campaigns and put up some solid numbers.
Lecitus Smith should have a chance to convince the brass that he can contend for a starting job next season along the offensive line. Zaven Collins can finish the season strong and complete the major leap he made. And Isaiah Simmons, who has also come on strong as of late, is another player who can show fans that he is more consistent than the boom-or-bust player he’s been.
Arizona Cardinals can see what they have in young talent in final month
With Kyler Murray missing the rest of the season, I would love to see what quarterback Carson Strong can do. We know that Colt McCoy is in the twilight years of his career and has been a backup since 2012. And we also know that David Blough has never done anything in the NFL and probably never will.
But the Cardinals have an opportunity to see if Strong can be the guy capable of filling in for Murray not just toward the end of this season, but also into next year if applicable. The Cardinals also have young receivers in Greg Dortch and Marquise Brown, and it will be interesting to see if they can create chemistry with Strong, should the quarterback work his way from the practice squad and into the starting lineup.
Yeah, it’s easy to tune into something else given the Arizona Cardinals lack of success this year. But some, if not all of these players, regardless of what happens to Kliff Kingsbury and Company, will be around in 2023. So why not take a look at them?
