When you have a roster full of holes and one slated to face a lot of turnover, it could be hard to know where to start if you’re the Arizona Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals can go in several directions this offseason. They need to re-sign key players like Zach Allen before they hit the market, figure out who’s going to play quarterback in Week 1 if Kyler Murray can’t go, and decide whether they’re going to trade star receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

As it stands, new general manager Monti Ossenfort might be in over his head with all the Cardinals need to do this offseason if they want to look even remotely respectable come September. But they need to shift your primary focus to something, and that focus should involve rebuilding this team from the inside-out.

The Arizona Cardinals primary offseason focus must be on the lines

On the offensive line, D.J. Humphries is the only full-time puzzle piece slated to return. A Pro Bowl-caliber left tackle, expect Humphries to be both the anchor and the leader along the offensive line this season, but his presence alone won’t be enough.

Josh Jones could be another starter along the line, but he’s only been a part-time starter throughout his first three seasons. This past year, Jones played in just 52% of the team’s offensive snaps.

An argument has been made that the Cardinals should also re-sign Kelvin Beachum. Beachum saw time in 98% of all offensive snaps this past season, and he enjoyed a solid PFF grade of 70.6 in 2022.

This could account for three of the five starting spots along the line, meaning Ossenfort may need to go shopping in free agency or turn to the NFL Draft. There is also a possibility he’ll opt to bring back guard Will Hernandez, who played in 91% of the Cardinals snaps in 2022.

Shifting gears to the defensive line, and the Cardinals are, well, barren. As it stands, only Rashard Lawrence, Leki Fotu, Manny Jones, and Eric Banks are signed to the roster. Yeah, it’s pretty bad. But anyway, it’s one major reason Ossenfort needs to do whatever it takes to re-sign Zach Allen.

From there, he once again either needs to shop for someone in free agency or turn to the NFL Draft. Someone like Jalen Carter might just top his radar.
