5 – Failing to address needs
And finally, Keim simply failed to make the Arizona Cardinals a better team. Instead of looking for a younger center, he talked the aging Rodney Hudson to return for another season. Keim also turned to the so-so Dennis Gardeck and aging Markus Golden to lead the pass rush, and the duo failed miserably.
He also didn’t address cornerback depth until the preseason, before swapping a late-round pick for Trayvon Mullen. Mullen appeared in just eight games, allowing two touchdowns and a 146.2 passer rating.
Overall, it was just an ill-fated season for the Cardinals and it was full of even more ill-fated decisions. While there were other poor issues that plagued the team, what you see above were arguably the five biggest reasons, from a decision-making standpoint, the Redbirds suffered through their worst season in a half-decade.
