We have officially gained more clarity regarding the situation surrounding Baker Mayfield, and all signs point to the 30-year-old quarterback starting on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals
Mayfield went down on the final play of the first half in the 34–7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football. The play in question was a Hail Mary attempt where Mayfield collapsed to the ground in pain. He was later seen on the sideline wearing a sling on that arm.
However, Mayfield, as well as head coach Todd Bowles, believes the team’s franchise quarterback is ready to go for Sunday, according to ESPN’s Jenna Laine.
“He looked good today, so he is trending towards playing,” Bowles said. “He had to get well, and he was very limited on Wednesday; he did a little more yesterday, and he moved around perfectly fine.”
In 2025, Mayfield looks as sharp as ever. Over the course of 11 games, he has thrown for 2,406 yards and 18 touchdowns while only getting picked off five times. He has done so while overcoming a plethora of injuries in his receiving corps. Mike Evans has been out for the majority of the year with a broken collarbone. The solid-looking rookie out of Ohio State, Emeka Egbuka, has also missed a short amount of time with a hamstring injury.
The Cardinals are still waiting on a status update regarding Marvin Harrison Jr., the second-year wide receiver underwent an appendectomy a couple of weeks ago, forcing him to be sidelined during the recent homestand, where the team went 0–2 with losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars.
While Mayfield hasn’t officially been listed as active ahead of Sunday, it is an important update regarding QB1. We can only expect to learn more as we approach Saturday night, Sunday morning.
