A well respected figure across the league, it could be within the Cardinals best interest to hire the 2X coach of the year winner.

The Cardinals fired Jonathan Gannon a day after their loss to the Los Angeles Rams with one reason…goals not being met. A major decrease in wins did him in, as Gannon’s squad went from an up-and-coming 8–9 team in 2024, to plummeting to the bottom of the NFC West pecking order witha 3–14 record in 2025.

This massive decline led to Gannon’s quick hook, and it is up for general manager Montim Ossenfort to find the next leader of what is a young team with talent.

One candidate that has already seen interest across the league is former Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, and while it is not the Cardinals being directly involved, it leaves us with the question of…

Should the Cardinals hire Kevin Stefanski as their next head coach?

In his six seasons as Cleveland’s head coach, Stefanski went 45–56, which may not seem great, but he won the Coach of the Year award twice and earned as many playoff appearances. Stefanski won Cleveland’s first playoff game in 26 years, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road in 2020.

Stefanski helped develop Baker Mayfield, who is currently tearing it up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also helped Joe Flacco, a veteran, get his career back on the right track. If the Ossenfort chooses to take a chance on Stefanski in order to save his job, that’ll open multiple different paths in terms of what they do at quarterback.

Despite their record as a team, the Cardinals had the pleasant surprise of seeing Jacoby Brissett move the ball down the field. This was a huge reason why questions are rising about Kyler Murray’s future at quarterback.

The Cardinals may select their new signal caller out of this year’s crop of quarterbacks coming out of college. The team holds a top-five draft pick, and with QBs like Fernando Mendoza and Dante Moore potentially forgoing their college eligibility, it may be very intriguing for Ossenfort to pair Stefanski with a young quarterback on a cheap, rookie contract.
