The Arizona Cardinals' luck with injuries hit another low on Sunday, as the team lost wide receiver Andre Baccellia and running back Bam Knight in their 40–20 loss.
Serving as the team’s No. 2 wide receiver over the past few weeks, Andre Baccellia was carted off on a stretcher after sustaining a neck injury near the end of the second quarter. The injury occurred on a kickoff when Baccellia was returning a kickoff and was tackled at the 29-yard line.
It was announced shortly after that Baccellia was transported to a local hospital for further testing, and that he had feeling in all of his extremities.
Baccellia, 28, has played in five games this season but has only two catches for eight yards. He has served mostly as the team’s return man, averaging around 26 yards per kick return. Baccellia is listed as the team’s No. 2 wide receiver, as he is seeing extensive playing time with Marvin Harrison Jr. out with a heel injury.
Cardinals running back Bam Knight also exited Sunday’s game with an injury, in which he had to be carted off. The injury occurred on his first carry of the game, when a nearby defender landed on his ankle. On Monday, the ankle injury was officially diagnosed as a sprain, and Knight was lucky it wasn’t any worse.
Signing with the Cardinals in the offseason, Knight has seen way more opportunity this season with James Conner and Trey Benson being out for the season. On top of that, an injury to Emari Demercado gave Knight even playing time to make a name for himself.
However, if unable to play next weekend, expect former Jets’ fourth-round pick, Michael Carter, to be the team’s lead back.
It’s a different situation for Baccellia, as the team banks on Marvin Harrison Jr. to return next weekend against the Atlanta Falcons. Therefore, Harrison and Wilson would lead the way, with Trent Sherfield Jr. likely serving as the team’s No. 3 wide receiver.
As of now, the Cardinals are well in play for a top-five pick in April’s draft and will have to do their due diligence when it comes to what position they want to address.
With the injuries we’ve seen at running back during 2025, it would not be a surprise in the slightest that general manager Monti Ossenfort wants to draft a true No. 1 running back. Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love should be top of mind. It will be interesting to see what the front office has in mind.
