The Arizona Cardinals have not had much to root for in 2025, as the team sits at 3–13 heading into the final week of the regular season. If sentimental achievements count towards anything, there is one moment that deserves recognition.
Arizona tight end, Trey McBride, set the single-season record for catches by a tight end on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, passing Zach Ertz, who set the initial record in 2018.
McBride, 26, finished the game with ten catches for 76 yards and a touchdown and is now up to 118 catches on the season, with one more game to play, meaning he has a chance to put the single-season record out of reach for the near future.
In the regular season finale, the Cardinals travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams (11–5), who are coming off an embarrassing loss on the road against the Atlanta Falcons. A game where quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 22-of-38 passes for 269 yards and a pair of touchdown passes, but also threw a trio of interceptions. L.A. found themselves down 21–0 at halftime, which came back to bite them.

The last time Stafford played a bad game was against the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 30, where he turned the ball over three times. The Rams would go on to play the Cardinals the following week, a game where Stafford threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns, leading the team to a 45–17 win.
Unfortunately for Arizona, they will be in that same scenario this week as Stafford and company have something to prove. Not only securing the No. 5 seed in the NFC playoff picture, but also for Stafford, his first-ever MVP award.
While it is unlikely they win, the Cardinals will at least have the chance to play spoiler on Sunday, in hopes of tarnishing the Rams’ chances of securing that five seed. The five and six seeds in the playoffs both play road games, but there is imense competition drop off this year. If Los Angeles manages to get ahold of the five seed, they will face either the 9–8 Carolina Panthers or the 8–9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road. If they end up with the six seed, they will be travelling to Philadelphia or Chicago, a pair of 11 (maybe 12) win teams.
Arizona, headlined by Trey McBride, will have the chance to derail L.A’s plans this January with a win.
