At this point in the NFL offseason, most teams are finished adding the cornerstone pieces that they will carry into the 2025 season. Now, it's time to fill in the edges with undrafted free agents, small-scale trades, and reclamation projects.

Sometimes one team's scraps can be another's solution.

According to league insider Adam Schefter, the Jacksonville Jaguars have released wide receiver Gabe Davis. This could be the perfect opportunity for the Arizona Cardinals to fill one of their few remaining needs before the start of the season.

Arizona Cardinals should jump on Gabe Davis opportunity

Gabe Davis has always been a somewhat controversial player. With the Buffalo Bills, he consistently made big plays downfield, creating explosive plays like it was nothing. He posted at least 650 yards and seven touchdowns in each of his four seasons in Buffalo. He averaged over 15 yards per catch every season, too.

But he struggled heavily with drops. Over the course of his career, Davis has dropped almost ten percent of his attempted catches, per PFF.

After his rookie contract expired, the Bills let Gabe Davis walk. He signed a three-year deal worth $39 million with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Davis was supposed to be the deep threat to unlock the Jaguars' offense.

It didn't quite work out that way. Davis had career lows in catches, receiving yards, yards per route run, and touchdowns. He missed the tail end of the season with a torn meniscus injury. After just one year with the team, the Jaguars cut Davis. There's a new regime in Jacksonville, and they're moving on from past mistakes.

There are plenty of question marks surrounding Gabe Davis. Can he fully recover from his injury? Can he return to the form he showed in Buffalo? These doubts will likely cause his market to be limited.

The Arizona Cardinals should jump on this opportunity. The Cardinals are still missing a deep threat in their offense after focusing almost exclusively on defense in free agency and the NFL Draft. Current options are slim, headlined by Tyler Boyd and Amari Cooper. Gabe Davis could be the perfect answer at a relatively low cost.

I'm hesitant to embrace the idea of Gabe Davis as a number two receiver. But as a third or even fourth option in an offense sorely lacking a downfield threat? Sign me up. As long as his medical reports check out, Gabe Davis should be an Arizona Cardinal in 2025.
