The Cardinals signed veteran wide receiver Steven Sims to their practice squad on Tuesday, a move to combat the injuries that the position group has seen over the course of 2025.

In a corresponding move, Arizona promoted wide receiver Trent Sherfield Sr. to the active roster along with Jalen Brooks to make room for Sims, according to Arizona Sports 98.7.

Sims, 28, made his NFL debut in 2019 with the Washington Redskins, where he appeared in all 16 games. He caught 34 of his 56 targets for 310 yards and four touchdowns during his rookie campaign, where he was the backup to Washington’s slot receiver, Trey Quinn.

Sims played his first two seasons in the league with Washington, where he caught 61 passes for 575 yards and five touchdowns. While a solid depth piece, Sims didn’t make the roster in 2021, and he was released by Washington ahead of the league’s deadline for final roster cuts to slim the roster down to 53 players.

Since then, Sims has spent time with the Pittsburgh, Houston, and Baltimore. But he hasn’t seen the same amount of playing time that he had in Washington, as he appeared in 22 games while only hauling in 17 catches for 129 yards and not finding the endzone.

Sims will have an opportunity to work his way up to the active roster during the final four weeks of the regular season.

The Arizona Cardinals have seen a plethora of injuries to their receiving core, as Michael Wilson and Andre Baccellia man the number two and three spots behind Marvin Harrison Jr., who has also missed time.

Marvin Harrison Jr., the fourth overall pick from 2024, has missed time in 2025 due to an illness, as well as injuries. The 23-year-old missed weeks 11 and 12 with appendicitis before returning the week after. He then suffered a heel injury in his first game back and has yet to see the field since.

On top of Harrison’s absence, Arizona has also been without Zay Jones since Week 10 after he suffered a torn Achilles tendon. Second-year wide receiver Xavier Weaver has also missed time due to a hamstring injury. The team also placed Greg Dortch on injured reserve with a chest injury.

As it stands, the Cardinals' receiving room heading into Week 15 will be Michael Wilson, Andre Baccellia, and Trent Sherfield Sr. serving as the team’s first three options. Injury designations are subject to change as we get closer to the weekend.
