Another domino in the Mike LaFleur staff search has fallen, the second one on the offensive side of the ball. The first-year head coach has hired Minnesota Vikings assistant wide receiver coach Tony Sorrentino as the head wide receiver coach in Arizona.

Sorrentino, 42, comes from an assistant role on an offensive scheme led by Kevin O’Connell. Sorrentino had had the opportunity to learn from Keenan McCardell on how to approach the role of head wide receiver coach.

On top of that, Sorrentino has been blessed with being able to work with one of the best wide receivers in the league, Justin Jefferson. He also got to coach a young, up-and-coming Jordan Addison.

Before his time with Minnesota, Sorrentino had held only one NFL coaching job, with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2013–2015, as an assistant wide receivers coach with a specialty in quality control.

While he has more college experience than pro, Sorrentino possesses all of the tools to make his way up the coaching staff.

In Arizona, he will inherit a very solid pair of wide receivers in Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson, who look to sync their talents and translate them to the field.

The big issue for the duo this past season was that neither of the two’s production could go hand in hand when both were in the lineup. Sorrentino will have the opportunity to hopefully fix this problem, and hopefully take this offense to the next level.

The hiring of Sorrentino comes shortly after the Cardinals hired former head coach Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator.

Mike LaFleur has done a solid job picking and choosing qualified candidates to fill his staff thus far; all that needs to happen is for this success to translate to the field.
