Former Cardinals star sees Kyler Murray playing for one team in particular in 2026

Will be interesting to see how accurate Mathieu is on his prediction.

The Arizona Cardinals find themselves right in the middle of a quarterback controversy, as backup Jacoby Brissett has played exceptionally well in the absence of Kyler Murray.

Brissett, 32, has thrown for 1,887 yards and 11 touchdowns while completing 66% of his passes. The only issue is that the Cardinals have only won one game with him under center.

While Kyler Murray has a better win-loss record compared to Brissett, the offense hasn’t looked as even a flow under him. Murray went down with a foot injury in the team’s Week 5 loss at home to the Tennessee Titans and was later placed on injured reserve after the team’s win against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9.

Many analysts across the league believe the poor performance from Murray as of late could result in him playing elsewhere in 2026. One former Cardinal listed one team in particular that could make a move for the struggling 28-year-old dual-threat quarterback.

In an interview with CasinoBeats, safety Tyrann Mathieu pointed to the Miami Dolphins being the change of scenery that Murray so desperately needs.

“He’s so dynamic,” Mathieu said. “I think at the quarterback position, it’s hard to find those guys that can do it all. For him, a great team I can see him with is the Miami Dolphins.”

Mathieu acknowledged on his own that Murray would benefit from a change of scenery, and the same could be said for Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who has struggled mightily in 2025.

A trade would be perfect, as the two teams would be exchanging contracts, both north of $200 million.

  • Kyler Murray: 5Y/$230 million
  • Tua Tagovailoa: 4Y/ $212.4 million

Perhaps general manager Monti Ossenfort should consider making this happen, as the team has not looked good under Murray, and Jacoby Brissett is also not the answer. It will be interesting to see if Mathieu’s prediction comes true.
