Head coach Jonathan Gannon announced on Tuesday that Jacoby Brissett would be the team’s starter for Week 10’s matchup on the road against the Seattle Seahawks, in what would be his fourth consecutive start in the absence of Kyler Murray.
After the team’s convincing 27–17 road win on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys, Gannon was asked by reporters whether he would consider keeping Brissett as the starter when Murray was healthy.
“Nothing’s changed on that,” Gannon said. “That’s how I feel.”
The next morning, Gannon announced that Brissett would start the upcoming weekend, saying that Murray was “still getting healthy.”
“Kyler Murray is still getting healthy,” Gannon said. “But I do like how we’re operating as an offense.”
The talk leading up to the game in Dallas was that Murray would be active but have a reduced role, and would only play in situations that wouldn’t put him at injury risk. When the Cardinals submitted their official injury report, Murray was listed as inactive.
Rumors are percolating that the QB change is not injury-related, and that Brissett will be QB1 going forward. ESPN commentator Joe Buck backed these rumors up at the conclusion of the game last night.
“The numbers have been better in each of the last two games,” Buck said. “I don’t know how you take him off the field, no matter how the foot is for Kyler Murray.”
In his three starts, Brissett has a six-to-one touchdown-to-interception ratio, is averaging 286.7 yards per game, and holds a passer rating of 103.1.
As Buck mentioned, “the offense looks way cleaner under Brissett.” Could Gannon be hiding the truth—that Brissett is the team’s starting quarterback for the remainder of the season?
We await more information on this development out of Glendale. But as of now, Brissett will be the team’s starter for Week 10 on the road against the Seattle Seahawks (6–2).
