Since firing former head coach Jonathan Gannon the day after the final game of the regular season, it took time for both the Cardinals and Gannon himself to figure out their futures.
For one, the Cardinals are still in the middle of their search for a head coach, and it seems as if they are getting close to finding the right guy to lead the team in the future. While the team has not officially decided who it’s going to be yet, Gannon has.
The Green Bay Packers officially hired Jonathan Gannon to be their defensive coordinator, replacing the shoes of Jeff Hafley, who took the head coaching job in Miami.
Gannon, 43, has experience as a defensive coordinator, as he was the mastermind behind the 2022 Philadelphia Eagles unit that made a Super Bowl appearance.

If we’re being honest, the Packers haven’t had much stability at the role of defensive coordinator, as, according to ESPN, the team let go of two in LaFleur’s tenure. Mike Pettine and Joe Berry.
In his time with the Cardinals as their head coach, Gannon went 15–36 with a five-win decrease in 2025, leading to his departure.
Gannon will inherit a defense that has one of the greatest pass rushers of our generation in Micah Parsons. Couple that with guys Devonte Wyatt, Edgerrin Cooper, and Xavier McKinney, and that’s a solid defensive unit.
The Cardinals do not play the Packers in 2026, so we won’t be getting a reunion between Gannon and the team. But it is fair to say that Gannon will have experience going up against great offenses, as he is a product of the NFC West division after all.
The news of the day…Jonathan Gannon has found a new home, while the Cardinals are still in search of their next man up.
