The Cardinals walked off the field on Monday night with a win on the road against the Dallas Cowboys, snapping their five-game losing streak.
Jacoby Brissett, who had been starting since Week 5 in the absence of Kyler Murray, put up his best start of the season in the win. The journeyman completed 21-of-31 passes for 261 yards with two touchdown passes, while scoring another one on the ground.
Leading up to the game, Kyler Murray was listed as questionable before his status was changed to out, which left people with questions.
As the two teams shook each other’s hands, commentators Joe Buck and Troy Aikman believed that Murray’s days as the team’s starter were over, as the offense looked way more fluent under Brissett.
At first, people thought this was crazy, as the Cardinals were paying Murray $46.1 million per year. It seemed impossible that this would be the truth, but when the team placed Murray on injured reserve a day later, the picture was being painted regarding the future of the team.
Murray going from almost starting to injured reserve is one thing, but the news that head coach Jonathan Gannon revealed on Friday is even more shocking.
“It wasn’t progressing the way that we wanted, so we went and got a different opinion, some different people, and kind of looked at it, and it’s just not right,” Gannon said.
The announcement came just after the team was eligible to open the 21-day practice window for Murray, making the situation all the more strange.
The passing game has looked much more capable of doing damage under Jacoby Brissett. Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, and Trey McBride have seemed to blossom as a trio with the 32-year-old slinging it downfield.
After the recent news regarding the starting quarterback position, the three will continue to develop with the veteran under center.
The Cardinals are eliminated from playoff contention, but Murray not starting for the remainder of the season will defiintiely raise questionmarks come the March.
