Running back is hands down one of the most important needs for the Cardinals to address this offseason, as the team couldn’t seem to identify a lead back this past season, which ultimately led to them not being able to consistently win games.
The Cardinals finished with only three wins and saw the passing game as the only element of the offense that remained consistent. The running game couldn’t take off, injuries kept on hitting the unit, and it was just an utter disaster for the team.
James Conner, Trey Benson, and Bam Knight all saw season-ending injuries throughout 2025, and the health proved to be the biggest issue.
Heading into the offseason, questions swirled about whether or not Arizona would sign or draft a lead back, which remains on the table. But one podcast believes that an in-house candidate can emerge as RB No. 1 in Glendale.

Fantasy Footballer’s Podcast Sees Trey Benson As A Breakout Candidate
Trey Benson appeared in four games for the Cardinals and had 29 carries for 160 yards without finding the end zone in 2025. This was largely due to the fact that he missed the other 13 with an injury. But don’t worry, Benson still has supporters out there.
While Benson could become the lead back, it would not be a surprise if the Cardinals were to draft another one in April to bolster their depth at the position. Forming a two-headed monster never fails, just ask the Chicago Bears, who saw the D’Andre Swift/Kyle Monangai tandem pan out perfectly.
Entering his third year, Benson still has hope, but he just needs to stay on the field.
