NFC West Crown Still a Possibility

Given everything that has happened to the Arizona Cardinals over the past three weeks, it is still amazing to me that I can sit here and proclaim the NFC West still up for grabs.  Why?  Because even with tough losses over the past few weeks, the Cards still have a legitimate shot at winning the division thanks to the ineptness of the entire division.

The St. Louis Rams (4-4), who had a week 9 bye, are now tied with the Seattle Seahawks (4-4) for the division lead.  For what it’s worth, Seattle has looked like the worst team in the NFL over the past two weeks, being outscored 74-10 since defeating the Cardinals two weeks ago.  The two teams meet again next week in Arizona.

The Cardinals sit at 3-5 and the San Francisco 49’ers are sitting at 2-6 with a bye week this week.  The Cards have already defeated the Rams in St. Louis and have all three teams at home still.  Even with the tough losses the last three weeks, there is still no reason why this team can’t finish 8-8 or 9-7.  The way Derek Anderson played today, it is possible.  The defense is going to need to get much better and fast though.
