The joke used to be the Arizona Cardinals are the Pittsburgh Steelers West with all of the former Steelers players the Cards have signed over the years, dating back to 2007 in Ken Whisenhunt‘s first year as Cards head coach.  Now, with Bruce Arians as coach, he’s still connected to Pittsburgh but now he’s brought in yet another former Indianapolis Colts player.  Today’s signing?  Cornerback Teddy Williams.

Williams was active for seven games last season after being signed prior to the 2012 season for the Colts. Williams has been a free agent who has not played a game yet this season.  Reportedly the Cards waived linebacker Kenny Demens to make room on the roster.  Williams joins Jerraud Powers and Bradley Sowell as 2012 Colts players on the roster.   Williams has also spent time in camp with the Dallas Cowboys in 2012.

According to arizonasports.com, Williams will be able to provide defensive and special teams support.  I don’t know much about the move but clearly this has to be seen as a message to the secondary.  Hopefully he can provide the help the Cards think he can.  As for Demens, he has been injured a bit.  He is a rookie from Michigan who played sparingly.  Also clear is the fact that if you are someone who can help on special teams, you will be on the roster no matter what position you play.  If you can’t play special teams, you aren’t active re: Ryan Williams.
