Arizona Cardinals: Trading for Mike Glennon Just a Rumor

It’s funny how sometimes people can take a simple rumor and run with it as if it were fact.  Over the past several days I’ve read where there are rumors that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to trade quarterback Mike Glennon, now that they have signed Josh McCown.  While I do believe the Bucs are looking to possibly trade him, I do not believe the Arizona Cardinals are his suitor.

Is Glennon worth a couple of high draft picks?  Personally, I don’t think so.  However a large portion of the Cards fan base is so desperate to rid of Carson Palmer and start anew with another possible franchise quarterback, they tend to believe the Cards have a high interest in making the move.  Honestly, I don’t know one way or the other but for me Glennon just doesn’t make sense.

My feeling is if the Cards thought that highly of Glennon, why didn’t they draft him last year?  Sure, he had a decent season but not good enough to warrant maintaining the starting job in Tampa.  Bucs Coach Lovie Davis wants McCown yes but why was Tampa so hot to move to get another quarterback if Glennon supposedly has that much upside?

Yes, I get this isn’t the best class of quarterbacks in the draft this year but I believe it is overall a better crop than 2013.  I just don’t think the Cards are going to give away a couple of their picks for a guy they could have drafted or traded for last season.  If it happens, it happens and I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong on my guess.  My best guess is though, this move won’t happen.  More likely I could see Glennon end up in a place like Cleveland.

We are not so quick to want to rid ouselves of Palmer. Although there are some that think the way you do; I can speak for a lot of us at least that wr love having Palmer as that stop-gap; however, many if us would line to see us be able to secure his successor in the near future.

Granted Palmer doesn’t have to many yrs left but after the offense finally got a handle on Arians system last year, Palmer was one of the best QB’s in the NFL. A good part of his interceptions were the fault of receivers running wrong routes and a lack of protection. I’m not a huge Palmer fan but he is a much better option than our other choices especially with our improved o-line and everyone more comfortable with the offense.

The Bucs want to rid themselves of him is because they believe a QB they’re drafting this year will be far and away better than Glennon. He did what he could with the injuries to other skill positions, the Freeman controversy and being thrown into the fire blah, blah, blah. Why didn’t Arizona pick him last year? Who knew he would do what he did last year? They certainly didn’t and that was with little talent around him. I am a Bucs fan really talking him up so Arizona, Cleveland, Minnesota or whoever will take him off our hands so we can get a decent QB who wills teams to wins, not last place statistical finishes.
