Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Bruce Arians put it simply the other day in his press conference.  He said either you can or you can’t when referring to playing in the NFL.  Tonight we will find out which ones can and the ones that can’t against the San Diego Chargers.

Here are the top position battles to watch tonight in the fight for 53:

Wide receivers:

Cards are most likely keeping six receivers.  They have eight guys who are fighting for those six spots. It will come down to Walt Powell, Brittan Golden, and Dan Buckner.  My best guess is Golden wins that last spot.

Tackles:

Bradley Sowell vs. Nate Potter.  My prediction is Potter wins that spot.  Sowell has played poorly in the preseason.  I just can’t see anyway he makes it, barring injury.

Cornerbacks:

Eddie Whitley, Bryan McCann, Teddy Williams, Jimmy Legree.  If I had to pick one standout in this group, it would be hard but I would probably go McCann.  Williams didn’t play all that well last week.

Linebackers:

Kenny Demens, Glenn Carson, Jonathan Brown, Desmond Bishop, Kevin Minter, Marcus Benard.  Demens is on the fence.  Carson is probably a practice squad candidate.  Minter is a question, not for making the team but whether he can go or not thanks to his injury which has nagged him throughout the entire preseason.

You’ll see these guys tonight.  None of the regular starters are going to play.  Good luck to them all.
