Slow start for both the Arizona Cardinals and Oakland Raiders offenses

The Arizona Cardinals and the Oakland Raiders didn’t exactly light the world on fire to start the game.  Both teams stalled on their first drives.  The Cards looked a little tentative but the Raiders tried to air it out on the first play of the game.

The second drive didn’t work out too well for the Raiders but for the Cardinals they found pay dirt.  Cards quarterback Carson Palmer led the team down the field on a 11-play 88-yard drive, culminating with a two-yard pass to running back Stephan Taylor for the score.

Taylor, not Andre Ellington got a couple of carries inside the 10-yard line and wasn’t to successful.  However Taylor was able to break a tackle on a short screen pass and reach for the end zone for the score.  It is these types of grind them out drives that keeps the ball in the offense’s hands, keeps the defense resting on the sidelines, and most importantly keep the Raiders offense on the sidelines as well.

The Raiders now have the ball and are driving, so they will have the ball starting the second quarter.  Palmer was 8-9 for 75 yards in the first quarter.  Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was just 2-5 for seven yards.  Ellington carried the ball four times for 13 yards for the Cards.
