Player profile of TE Darren Fells as Arizona Cardinals training camp starts July 31st

As we prepare for Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player.  I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.

We go from A to Z and continue with TE Darren Fells.  Fells enters his second season with the Cardinals.

2014 season:  Fells looked great in the preseason after giving it a try with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013.  He spent the 2013 camp with them but it was his 2014 camp that allowed him to make the team.  Fells caught five passes for 71 yards in the regular season.

2015 season projection: With his 10 games of regular season experience, he is actually the tight end with the most experience on the team.  There seems to be a good chance he will still be on the roster when the final 53 men are chosen for the regular season but he won’t be able to be the main guy at the position.  He will need help.  I would be surprised if the Cardinals didn’t go add a veteran to not only share time on the field with Fells but also take Fells under his wing so that some day soon Fells could compete for the number one spot.

Yes Fells is inexperienced when you look at the overall picture but he’s been in the Cardinals system now for well over a year.  He knows what coach Bruce Arians expects.  Now it is just a matter of converting the knowledge to actual play on the field in the regular season.
