Arizona Cardinals: Projected first cuts

The Arizona Cardinals must cut the roster to 75 players by September 1st at 1:00 p.m. Arizona time

After two preseason games many of the backups have had their chances to show what they can and can’t do.  There is still one more preseason game left before the NFL’s first cut date of September 1st when teams must reduce rosters to 75 players.

The cut to the final 53-man roster must be completed by 1:00 p.m. Arizona time on September 5th.  Here is the projected round of cuts for the Cardinals to get down to 75.  These players may not get much more of a chance to show their stuff as the regular starters will likely play at least a half next Sunday in Oakland.

CB Jonte Green, G Jon Halapio, WR Trevor Harman, WR Travis Havey, G Nate Isles, G Antonie McClain, CB C.J. Roberts, TE Gannon Sinclair, S Anthony Walters, CB Shaquille Richardson, WR Ryan Spadola, S Ross Weaver, CB Darren Woodard

To me if you look at that list the biggest surprise would be Richardson.  He did alright in the game on Saturday night against the San Diego Chargers but he becomes a victim of a numbers game.  Releasing him in the first round of cuts allows him to catch on with another team if they are interested.

The same thing could be said for Spadola.  Spadola made a very nice catch for a first down in the fourth quarter against the Chargers on Saturday night.  I love his passion and enthusiasm.  However there is no way he will make this team as deep as the receiving core is for the Cardinals.

I will update this list if need be after the game next Sunday night but I’m fairly confident in many of these names.  If they aren’t cut next week they will by the 5th.
