Player profile of C A.Q. Shipley as Arizona Cardinals prepare to wind down preseason

As we have reached the end of Arizona Cardinals training camp and just two games of the preseason remaining, we continue our annual look at the roster player by player.  I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.

We go from A to Z and continue with C A.Q. Shipley. Shipley begins his first season with the Cardinals after being with the Indianapolis Colts in 2014.

2014 season: Shipley played in 15 games for the Colts last season.  Of those 15, he started five of those games.  He was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2009.

2015 season: Shipley looked early on as if he might beat out Ted Larsen for the starting center position.  Then after the first preseason game, coach Bruce Arians wasn’t particularly happy with the progression of either player.  The Cardinals then went and signed Lyle Sendlein to return to the team after being the starting center last season.  Shipley is still officially listed first on the depth chart but that status is in jeopardy.

Certainly what one is being paid has never been a concern for coach Arians.  The main concern is who is playing well and who isn’t.  Shipley can still win the starting center job but he will have to play well Sunday night and Thursday night.
