The Arizona Cardinals have made their selection in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft

We only had to wait about three hours but the Arizona Cardinals have made their selection.  We saw quarterbacks early and a run on wide receivers in the early 20 picks.  We saw a few surprises, a few stretches, but in the end you have to believe the Cardinals got the guy they wanted all along.

The Arizona Cardinals select DT Robert Nkemdiche from Ole Miss with the 29th pick of the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft.  He was truly the best player left on the board.  We profiled him a few weeks ago as a possibility.  Fans are excited.

You can’t help but be very excited for a player of Nkemdiche’s talent to be available at 29.  Yes he fell because of off the field issues but he seemed genuine in his post-pick interview with NFL Network’s Deion Sanders that the issues are issues in the past.  I accept that and apparently the Cardinals accepted that as well.

Defensive tackle was also an area they needed to address.  After they cut Cory Redding a couple of weeks ago, it seemed likely they would target a defensive tackle in the this year’s draft.  Now it is time to get to work.
