The Arizona Cardinals have concluded mini-camp with next stop training camp in Glendale

We continue our annual look at player by player from A to Z on the current Arizona Cardinals roster as we are now entering the final stages of the offseason before the start of training camp. The next stop is training camp on July 28th.

In this profile we look at kicker Chandler Catanzaro.  “Cat Man” enters his third season in the NFL with the Cardinals.

2015: Catanzaro was about as accurate as they come as a field goal kicker last season.  He finished the season going 28-31 in field goal attempts.  His season-long was 47 yards.

Now, if you want to discuss extra points, that’s a different story.  By now you all know the changes that were made.  The extra point was moved out to the 15-yard line to make it a 33-yard attempt. Cat Man didn’t fare as well here.  He was 53-58 in the point after touchdown tries.

Missing five extra points from straight down the middle of the field was a bit alarming.  However it is not alarming enough to bring anyone else in for a tryout.

2016: Cat Man will again be the man as the Cardinals placekicker.  He can really boom it.  He had 50 touchbacks last season so it would be hard to replace that.  As of right now there is no competition for him on the roster.

That doesn’t mean that can’t change between now and the end of the preseason.  Head coach Bruce Arians can change his mind at any time.  Look how late he brought Dan Carpenter into camp a few years ago to give him a look because Jay Feely was struggling.

I don’t see that scenario playing out in training camp this season though. The job is Catanzaro’s through at least this season.
