The Arizona Cardinals have concluded mini-camp with next stop training camp in Glendale

We continue our annual look at player by player from A to Z on the current Arizona Cardinals roster as we are now entering the final stages of the offseason before the start of training camp. The next stop is training camp on July 28th.

In this profile we look at tight end Gerald Christian.  Christian is in his second season out of Louisville.  He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

2015: What looked to be a promising chance to make the 53-man roster or at the very least the practice squad turned south in a hurry when Christian was injured towards the end of the preseason.

‘Mr. Irrelevant’ they called him, being the last pick in the draft, was giving one last push to make the team when he tore his MCL against the Denver Broncos in the final preseason game. Unfortunately the tight end had to go on injured reserve at that point and his season was over before it started.

2016: Looking ahead to this season now, Christian is at an apparent loaded position.  The Cardinals are also getting Ifeanyi Momah back and that’s before we even get to the others.

The Cardinals have Jermaine Gresham back as well as Darren Fells.  Then there is Troy Niklas who also has had to deal with a couple of injury issues his first two seasons in the NFL.

Christian will be given every shot to make the team but it now seems even more of a long shot given what the Cardinals have been able to get out of Fells and the move the team made to bring back Gresham, which didn’t seem to be a sure thing once the 2015 season ended.
