The Arizona Cardinals are just four days away from opening training camp in Glendale

We continue our annual look at player by player from A to Z on the current Arizona Cardinals roster as we are now entering the final stages of the offseason before the start of training camp. Players report to training camp this Thursday July 28th.

In this profile we look at linebacker Markus Golden. He enters his second season in the NFL out of Missouri.

2015: Golden played a little in his rookie season but spent most of it as a backup.  He did start six games of the 15 games he participated in.

Golden had 31 tackles, four sacks, and forced two fumbles last season. He forced those fumbles both on Sunday Night Football games against the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles.

2016: Look for an expanded role for Golden this season.  You could see a little more production from him as the season wore on last year.  Now don’t be surprised if he starts more games in 2016.

Golden will be in the middle of a very talented linebacking core that also added Chandler Jones in the offseason.  Golden is well liked by fans and should easily find himself in the mix in his sophomore season in the NFL.

Some believe Golden will be this year’s breakout player.  He very well could be.  Given his limited time last season on the field and still be able to put the numbers up he did, imagine what he could do playing full-time?

As he continues to improve, Golden could push in the neighborhood of seven sacks or more.  With the talent around him it is tough to put a specific number on that total but I would certainly look for him to improve on the four-sack total from his rookie season.
