Arizona Cardinals Draft Needs: Quarterback Preview

facebooktwitterreddit

The Arizona Cardinals have a lot of needs come NFL Draft time, one of them being the quarterback.  Here is a look at what they have now and why they need help at the position.  In my opinion, this should be the first position addressed before any other.  I've said it a million times, this is a quarterback driven league.

What they have now: Derek Anderson, John Skelton, Max Hall

Why they need change and/or addition: Do I really need to go in-depth on this?  Seriously though, I think we all know why a change is needed.  They went the entire 2010 season without an NFL starting quarterback.  It was quarterback by committee, which you can see results in only 5 wins.  A couple of those wins were last second jobs that came down to the kicking game.  The Cards could easily have only won 2 or 3 games last season.

Possible top draftees: Blaine Gabbert, Missouri; Cam Newton, Auburn; Ryan Mallet, Arkansas

What will happen: Depending on who you believe, Gabbert will be their man at number five if they still hold the pick at the time of the draft.  There is worry Gabbert won't be able to adjust to the pro game because of the spread offense he ran at Missouri.  That hasn't stopped the rumors though and it most likely won't stop Gabbert from being drafted somewhere in the top 10.
