Matt Barkley isn’t throwing in today’s QB session of the NFL Scouting Combine. Some are skeptical of the reasons why, as he is going to wait for his pro day to throw for scouts. Given his injury, on the surface, one could understand why. However is it more of just that southern California laid back, do it my way lifestyle that people really think is what is going on. Either way, it was reported by NFL.com that the Arizona Cardinals came away impressed with Barkley in his interview this week.
So I don’t know whether to take this as good news or bad news? On one hand if the Cards met with the player and came away impressed, he must have a good head on his shoulders. He probably has a great mind for the game based on that. However, on the other hand, I want to see what he is like on the field, not off. You only win on the field. As a quarterback, you win by throwing the ball well. He’s not doing that right now.
I’d like to know more about what exactly it was that had the Cards come away impressed? Is the new management that easily impressed with players without trying them out on the field? You can say all the right things in an interview. It’s all about performance in the end though. Ask me a month or two ago, I was pretty high on Barkley, as were others, however I just can’t picture him in a Cardinals uniform right now. However, that’s why I don’t make the big bucks to make those decisions. I just get to critique them.
