Logan Thomas was named the starting quarterback against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said on Tuesday evening on Sirius/XM NFL Radio that quarterback Logan Thomas will start and play at least the first half against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara.  He added that Drew Stanton should be back for the playoffs.

So this week there is no chance for Stanton, however Thomas will play but Arians would not guarantee the whole game.  He said Monday that if things go wrong fast he would not hesitate to put Ryan Lindley into the game.  Either way, it sounds like he will get a shot to play anyway.

It was curious that Arians named Thomas the starting quarterback to begin with.  I know a lot of Cardinals fans want to see him bu the Cardinals still have a shot at the first or second seed.  There are scenarios for both seeds should the Cardinals win and the Seattle Seahawks lose to the St. Louis Rams.

Arians he did not start Thomas over his lack of confidence or anything that Lindley did or didn’t do on Sunday night against the Seahawks.  So it is interesting that Thomas is playing in what many still consider an important game.

Of course by saying that Thomas will be playing at least a half, you know the Cardinals will be scoreboard watching.  A lot could depend on what is going on in Seattle Sunday afternoon.  The odds are long that the Rams pull off the upset but it can happen.  The Rams beat the Seahawks 28-26 earlier this season.  Playing in Seattle though,as we all know, is a much tougher beast.
