Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians cancelled the final day of mini-camp on Thursday

What happens when you perform well?  What happens when everyone shows up during all OTA’s and camps?  Your head coach gives you the rest of the offseason off.  Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians did just that on Wednesday.

“We’ve accomplished everything we’ve set out to accomplish this spring to have us ready for camp” Arians told azcardinals.com and the rest of the media huddled at mini-camp on Wednesday.  The practice would have lasted about 30 minutes anyway.  This is a nice gesture made by the coach, thanking the team for their hard work.

What is even better than performing well in the offseason was the fact the Cardinals avoided any major injuries.  We all know what the 2014 season brought us.  The injuries started early and happened often.  Despite all of that, the Cardinals were still able to go 11-5 and make the playoffs.  You can bet your bottom dollar that Arians and the rest of the coaching staff expect an even better season in 2015.  Why wouldn’t they expect that with a healthy quarterback in Carson Palmer?

Palmer managed to return to 100 percent and participate fully in mini-camp.  Now it will be up to the coaching staff to use him properly in training camp to ensure he avoids injury from late July until early September.  Also returning to full strength is running back Andre Ellington.  He was also a full participant in mini-camp.  That was not something we could say at any point in practice during the 2014 season.

The next stop for the Cardinals players and staff is a six-week vacation.  Arians said he was going to be fishing by a lake tomorrow.  I’m sure some players will be doing similar things.  His message for the team Wednesday was basically stay out of trouble.  Not too much to ask is it?  Let’s hope it isn’t.  The last thing the Cardinals need is some kind of distraction heading into training camp because then it is all media will want to talk about.

Training camp will start in late July.  Specific dates have not been released yet.  Once they are we will post the information here for your reading and planning pleasure.  No offseason with us.  We will be here to continue to discuss the Cardinals leading up to camp at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
