Arizona Cardinals: 5 first round options
By Scott Allen
The Arizona Cardinals pick 29th in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft on April 28
The Arizona Cardinals could go one of several different directions in the first round. As I outlined the other day, it appears pass rusher will not be one of those options now that the Cardinals have Chandler Jones in the fold.
Here are five options I can see the Cardinals going with in the first round. I suspect one of these options will show themselves on Thursday April 28th in Chicago, the location of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Draft a quarterback
For the longest time I nixed this idea. I really didn’t think the Cardinals would look into the possibility. However now there are reports the Cardinals could go that route if the right guy was still available at 29. Say like a Paxton Lynch from Memphis?
There has been no word from the Cardinals camp that they have any interest in Lynch. However I will say, with this front office regime, saying nothing means a lot. The only quarterback the Cardinals have worked out, to the public’s knowledge, is Dax Prescott from Mississippi State. Word is the Denver Broncos might be interested in him for the 31st pick of the first round. Stay tuned there.
I believe the Cardinals will wait until the later rounds to get their quarterback. In the past I thought they’d stay away from a quarterback all together but I think it would be prudent to at least work some out, like a Prescott. I wouldn’t rule a quarterback from being added. I just don’t think it’s necessary to reach for someone in the first round, even if Lynch is available.
