Jim Bakken

Bakken played 17 seasons with the Cardinals back in St. Louis.  He played from 1962 until 1978. Bakken by far is the franchise leader in points scored with 1,380 points.

Bakken was a kicker and punter.  He had 282 field goals and 534 extra points made in his career. His longest field-goal in his career was in 1964 at 51 yards but it was his longevity that should be counted here.

Bakken held the record for most field goals made in one game, with 7, from 1967 until it was broken by Rob Bironas in 2007 with 8 made.   The 7 made was tied a couple of times before Bironas broke it.  He attempted 9 field goals the day he made the 7 and that still stands as the NFL record.

I know kickers and punters don’t get the kind of recognition that other positions do but in this case Bakken’s name on the Ring of Honor would be a nice recognition for a guy who not only spent 17 years in the NFL but all with the same team.
