Matt Barkley

Barkley entered the game in the second quarter.  For his first several plays he looked like he was making good reads.  He threw a nice pass to receiver Jaxon Shipley, who subsequently dropped the pass.

Barkley then seemed to digress a little though.  He looked like a guy who hadn’t played in a meaningful game in two years.  This much was certain, he was doing himself no favors in his competition for third quarterback behind Palmer and Stanton.

For the evening Barkley went 8-24 for 121 yards and an interception. He should see some extended action again next Friday in San Diego.  Despite his poor play, he should still remain in the third spot.

Barkley will have to turn up the performance a little next week to keep his leg up in the competition with Coker.  As I stated earlier, there is no guarantee there will be a number three quarterback on the Cardinals regular-season roster.
