Chandler Catanzaro

Let’s get this straight right now.  Chandler Catanzaro is not the reason the Cardinals lost on Sunday.  He may be the reason they didn’t win but he did not lose the game, despite taking the blame afterwards.

Catanzaro missed his 46-yard field goal attempt on the Cardinals last drive of the game Sunday night. Yes, there was a bad snap and a questionable hold, but yet he still had a shot to kick the ball through those uprights to create a whole different conversation we’d be having over the last couple of days.

Last season Catanzaro made all of his kicks from between 29-47 yards.  There was no reason to believe he wouldn’t come through again.  That being said, he may be the one person on the team where one more big mistake like that may cost him a roster spot.

The Cardinals like “Cat Man” and although Arians wouldn’t place the blame on him for the loss Sunday night, on Monday morning general manager Steve Keim blamed everyone on special teams, including Catanzaro.

The Cardinals likely have a list of free agent kickers they’d bring in should Catanzaro continue any kind of struggle.  The life of a kicker on the field may not be rough, but the actions on it may cause a rougher life than other players off of it.  One mistake can cost you your job in this league if you are a kicker.
