Tight End Jake Butt is coming off an injury, but is a major talent on the field

The Arizona Cardinals have no sure answers at tight end going into the 2017 season. Free agency could claim their starters from last year, and they could be left with in experience at an important spot. Adding a player like Jake Butt could solve the issue.

There’s a lot to like about the former Michigan Wolverine. Butt is experienced. He has terrific hands. He’s also a terrific route runner., who gets open both on the outside, and in the middle of the field. Blocking isn’t the strongest part of his game, but he does try, and could get better at it.

Obviously, the biggest concern with Butt is the injury he suffered at the end of the season. An ACL tear means he’s likely to miss much, if not all, of the 2017 season. This could, naturally, scare NFL teams away, as they’d prefer someone who can play right away.

There is going to be some guesswork involved with Butt as a draft prospect. His injury will affect his draft status, but he’s talented enough to still go in round two or three. The Cardinals could re-sign a player like Jermaine Gresham for another year to bridge the gap to Butt if they were to take him.
