Obi Melifonwu, SS, Connecticut

At 6’3, 217 he ideally fits with what Arizona wants physically in the secondary.  He had 221 tackles and eight interceptions in his four seasons at Connecticut.

Four of his interceptions came in the 2016 season alone.  He lead the Huskies in tackles with 128 last season.

Melifonwu is a projected second-rounder by cbssports.com, another attractive attribute of this selection.  The Cardinals won’t have to reach for a position of need.

The Cardinals likely got a good look at him in the 2017 Senior Bowl.  His quickness and ability to tackle receivers should be good enough for the Cardinals to go and grab this lesser-talked about safety.

There are better safeties in this draft but for the value the Cardinals could get for him is worth the risk.  If the Cardinals don’t draft him in the second round, there is a possibility he could still be available in the third as some projections have him.
