The Arizona Cardinals are adding another wide receiver to the mix with running back Andre Ellington

Head coach Bruce Arians has said that running back Andre Ellington will make the move to wide receiver.  The move had been rumored after the team re-signed him a couple of weeks ago.

The play making Ellington has shown flashes as a receiver out of the backfield and now he gets the chance to make plays as a wide receiver. Andre Ellington was expected to be the back up to star running back David Johnson. It looks like with this move the Cardinals are comfortable giving most of the workload to Johnson who is going on his third year.

Ellington who is actually a fantastic receiver could flourish at the position. He has made some impressive plays catching the ball out of the back field. Flash back to week 5 of the 2014 season, Ellington had an 81 yard touchdown reception with an amazing catch in traffic. In that game Ellington had 4 receptions for 112 yards.

More from Cardinals News

Fast forward to 2016, Ellington had 12 receptions for 85 yards and no touchdowns, but with an off season of work and learning from a team mate like Larry Fitzgerald. There is no telling what potential Ellington could have lining up at wide receiver.

In Ellington’s seasons with the Cardinals he has tallied up 112 total receptions, 999 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Cardinals are going to look to have help at the receiver position in 2017, and we will probably see some more come out of the draft or later before training camp.

The only negative side would be his size, at 5’9 and 199 pounds, Ellington would be the shortest receiver on the Cardinals roster.. There’s still no telling if he will get snaps at running back if Johnson needs a breather but Ellington should be effective as a wide receiver, and its exciting to think about for the up coming season.
