Alec James, DE, Wisconsin

James stands at 6’3, 272, on the defensive line.  He had 6.5 sacks last season for the Wisconsin Badgers.

In playing in all 14 games for the Badgers in 2017, he totaled 52 tackles, two passes defensed, and a fumble recovery in addition to his sacks. He was on the All-Big Ten Second Team named by coaches.

Still James was considered a late round prospect at best.  Certainly many believed he would be in an NFL camp and now he will get his chance to show what other teams passed up.

The defensive line is still evolving after some turnover from last season but it still could be a tough unit to crack from where James is coming from.  Expect him to last awhile through camp.  He could be a surprise roster addition once camp breaks at the end of August.

He’s quick but his size has been noted by some as a concern.  He’s good with his hands and feet, which will certainly be a plus but if he gets pushed around too much, it may not be enough to make the team.
