Blaine Gabbert

Of these five players, this might have been the easiest decision.  When asked in November, Keim was ready to give this guy an extension of his one-year deal.

However then reality set in for him.  Keim found out what the rest of us already knew, Gabbert isn’t very good.  Eventually Drew Stanton got his starting gig back from Gabbert at the end of the season.

Granted, Gabbert didn’t perform as badly as some expected him to but in the end it was clear the Cardinals needed to go in a different direction.  Gabbert was not the answer.

The Cardinals instead went with Sam Bradford and Mike Glennon and then drafted their future in Josh Rosen.  Gabbert meanwhile has hooked on with the Tennessee Titans as a backup.

If the Cardinals had decided to hang on to Gabbert, they likely still draft Rosen but the window could possibly have been pushed out further for him starting with a different mindset on the roster.
