The Backups

The Cardinals will have three backup quarterbacks in training camp, at least to begin with.  The top backup is former Chandler High-School standout Brett Hundley.

Hundley returns to the Valley of the Sun to be the backup but trust he will prepare every week as if he will be called on to play.  Hundley spent last season as the backup to Russell Wilson with the Seattle Seahawks.

Since Murray is being compared by some to Wilson, Hundley can help Murray learn the NFL game, although by all accounts Murray is way ahead of the game so far.  We should get a good look at Hundley in the preseason games.

He started nine games in 2017 for the Packers due to injury to Rodgers.  He threw nine touchdowns and 12 interceptions as his replacement.  He did not take a snap for the Seahawks last season.

As for the other two in camp, fans should be familiar with Charles Kanoff.  He was a member of the Cardinals practice squad for the last month of the 2018 season.

If the Cardinals do decide to carry only two quarterback on the active roster, Kanoff could find himself in a familiar spot on the practice squad again.  He will be battling it out with rookie Drew Anderson out of Murray State.

Anderson, after going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Cardinals signed him as an undrafted free agent.  He threw for 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions last season for Murray State.

He could win a practice squad spot as well.   It won’t be both Kanoff and Anderson though, so it’ll come down to preseason performance for those two.
