#54 Jerry Stovall

Stovall played nine seasons with the Cardinals in St. Louis from 1963-1971.  He was certainly one of the last of his kind, playing defensive back and also was a punter for the first four seasons.

He was drafted second overall in the first round of the 1963 NFL Draft.  The New York Jets of the AFL also took him third overall that season in their draft but he opted for the Cardinals instead.

He played in 97 games for the Cardinals, all but one he was a starter.  He made the Pro Bowl in three of those seasons.  He was a Pro Bowler in 1966, 1967, and 1969.

He had the third-longest punt in the NFL in 1963.  One of his 65 punts that season went for 69-yards.

He also had two interception returns for touchdowns.  He had one in 1963 and one in 1964. He was a double threat.  That is a different kind of versatility you will likely never see again in the NFL.
