Arizona Cardinals: Grading the 2020 NFL Draft
By Scott Allen
Evan Weaver, ILB, California
Maybe the biggest head scratcher of the draft class when the name was announced. However after learning more of Weavers game, it was clear why he also should be a fit for the Cardinals defense.
On video, he reminds me of Scooby Wright, the former University of Arizona linebacker who had his shot with the Cardinals as well. However Weaver is slightly bigger than Wright, standing at 6’3.
Weaver lead the NCAA in tackles last season with 181. This after posting a total of 155 sacks his junior year in 2018. He is currently second in tackles all time in the Pac-12 with 407.
He was also in the top 10 in sacks in the Pac-12 in 2019 with a total of 4.5 sacks in 2018. He had 2.5 sacks last year for the Golden Bears.
Weaver should add some nice depth. He has nice instincts and works hard, has great heart according to scouting reports. He seems to be another Rudy, but one with an NFL body.
Grade: B+
