Cardinals Pass Rush Versus Washington’s Offensive Line

This is one area the Cardinals should have a clear advantage in now that they have a solid rotation in the pass rush. The Cards’ rush forced Garoppolo to play off-balance for three quarters in the season opener and as a result, he never succeeded in gaining a rhythm.

The Washington offensive line didn’t protect well in the running or passing game, and they were one reason the team fell into the 17-0 hole they managed to dig themselves out of.  Meanwhile, the Cardinals collected three sacks, including one from sack artist Chandler Jones and another from newcomer Angelo Blackson. Zach Allen recorded the team’s third sack.

The relentless pass rush kept the pressure on Garoppolo all game after the Cardinals fell into their own 10-0 hole early in the game. It resulted in the defense allowing just 10 more points for the rest of the contest while the offense lit a flame and put up 24.

Given the weakness of the Washington line plus the strength and depth of the Cardinals pass rush, it should come as no surprise to see the Cardinals bringing the heat from multiple locations early.  Often they will look to confuse and knock quarterback Dwayne Haskins out of rhythm.

If the Cardinals accomplish this for a second week in a row, it only improves their chances to win this Sunday.
