Stopping the opposing offense

Josh Allen and the Bills offense hit a slump between weeks five and eight. Then came the quarterback duel in Seattle, in which Allen and the Bills put up a staggering 44 points.

The Bills offense has found its groove, and the Cardinals defense is ailing with injuries to key players and COVID-19 kept key contributors Byron Murphy and Devon Kennard out of action against Miami.

But injuries are continuing to pile up on defense for the Cards. On Thursday, Budda Baker, Leki Fotu, and Jordan Phillips did not practice. Dre Kirkpatrick was listed as limited on Thursday as well. Zac Allen is still on IR and cornerback Kevin Peterson joined him this past week.

Now for the good news. Markus Golden has returned to the Valley of the Sun and Jalen Thompson is back and picking up where he left off. Haason Reddick is finally playing like a first-round pick. And Both Jordan Hicks and De’Vondre Campbell are a terrific tandem at inside linebacker.

But if Baker, Phillips, and Kirkpatrick miss Sunday’s game, the Cardinals need someone to step up. Whether it is Isaiah Simmons, Chris Banjo, or new signee Jonathan Joseph, someone must make Allen and company uncomfortable and force them to make some mistakes. Preferably a few turnovers.
