Patrick Surtain II

With Patrick Peterson set to test the free agent market, the Cardinals can replace him with another corner named Patrick. Patrick Surtain II is already a big name considering his NFL bloodlines. His father, Patrick Surtain, played for the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs between 1998 and 2008.

Some NFL pundits have labeled Surtain as the best corner in the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s, at worst, a top fifteen pick. So if the Cardinals like him or value the need for corner more than tackle, he won’t come at such a high cost in a trade-up with another team.

Surtain’s presence in the desert will allow a legitimate number one corner pick up where his predecessor left off. Sure, they’re still short on corners, given Byron Murphy‘s preference for playing in the slot and Robert Alford‘s future still up in the air.

However, Surtain should become the lockdown corner that Peterson was from 2011 until 2018, before the latter lost a step beginning in 2019. It’s hard to replace a guy of Patrick Peterson’s caliber, but Surtain may be the player capable of doing so.
