Position #1: tight end

Dan Arnold is a good tight end and he deserves a place on the Cardinals roster should they choose to bring him back. But he proved in 2020 that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a legit TE1. But hey, for a former undrafted free agent, he’s adequate enough to hold his own as a TE2.

And he proved it in 2020, with 31 receptions for 438 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also accounted for 24 first downs and showed his ability as a deep threat. But the Cardinals are in dire need of an upgrade.

Further, Maxx Williams is known more for his blocking. He’s also been injury-prone and he’s a risk to put faith in as a TE1 or even a TE2. Maybe keep him around for blocking, but he doesn’t contribute much else.

Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith can easily fill the TE1 role. And while none are dynamic playmakers, they’re immediate upgrades over Williams and Arnold. Henry showed his worth with 60 receptions. And while Smith held similar numbers to Arnold, he was a huge threat in the red zone with 7 touchdown receptions.

Other good options at the time of today’s post include Gerald Everett and Mo-Alie Cox. Everett also possesses deep threat ability. And while Cox also posted identical numbers to Arnold, he made an exceptional leap from 2019 to 2020. Plus, he was stuck in a timeshare with Jack Doyle.
