For Steve Keim, it doesn’t matter when Larry Fitzgerald makes his decision to return to the Arizona Cardinals. Keim is keeping the door open for the franchise’s best player and it’s understandable why Keim is doing it. At least he’s not angering one of his franchise’s players, like say, um, Brian Gutekunst of the Green Bay Packers. Keim was on Adam Schein’s show on Tuesday when he was asked about his whole process about Fitzgerald’s return.

“Leave it up to him. I think he’s earned that right and if he tells us at some point that he’s ready to go, we’ll have a spot for him.” -Steve Keim

Say what you will about the draft history with Keim, but at least he is getting this completely right from the get-go. If we are lucky enough to see Larry Legend back with the team, just imagine what he could teach second-round pick, Rondale Moore. It’d be quite the sight to see the Cardinals “big three/ big four” of Fitzgerald, Moore, DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green lining up to attack the defense.

It would be Fitzgerald’s 18th season in the league, which is just two behind Jerry Rice’s 20 seasons played. It’s rare for non-kickers to reach this mark, let alone with one team. Fitzgerald only needs less than 2,000 yards to break Rice’s receiving yards with one team record.

Next. Kingsbury could be alienating his defense. dark

Many are hoping for Larry Fitzgerald to stick around long enough to break the all-time receptions record held by Rice, which sits at 1,549. Fitzgerald is currently at 1,432 career grabs. That’s a difference of 117 catches between the two of them. If there is a more consistent effort to get the ball to Fitzgerald from Murray, then the chances would be pretty good to see a change atop one of the hardest records in the NFL to break.
