The Cardinals travel to Santa Clara next week to face the 49ers, a team they struggled against earlier in the season. We’re unsure who the quarterback will be next Sunday, as the Jimmy Garoppolo–Trey Lance saga continues to unfold.
It seems like every time these two teams get together, at least dating back to the beginning of the Kingsbury era, that one possession decides these games. Double digits have only decided one game between these teams during the Kingsbury era – a 36 to 26 loss in 2019.
In 2020, both games went down to the wire. And in the first game between the division rivals in 2021, the Cardinals bottomed out with just 17 points scored. The 49ers, just two seasons removed from playing in the Super Bowl, sit at 2-4 and the sense of urgency is growing. Especially amidst preliminary rumblings regarding coach Kyle Shanahan’s job security. Regardless of who wins, expect another close outing.
