Amidst an always changing wide receiver room, the Cardinals have set some stability as they head deeper into the offseason.

The team signed journeyman wide out, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, on Wednesday. A move that adds depth behind Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson, who are the leaders of what is an up-and-coming unit.

Smith-Marsette, 26, will be on his sixth NFL team since 2021, as he spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers, and New York Giants.

In his five seasons of action, Smith-Marsette has hauled in 14 catches for 182 yards with a pair of touchdown grabs.

The Cardinals saw their wide receiver room fluctuate quite a bit in 2025, as the team saw plenty of injuries at the position. Marvin Harrison Jr. missed four games with a heel injury and an illness, which led to overshadowed pass catchers such as Michael Wilson to break out.

When it came to depth, Arizona did not have it at all. The team went from Xavier Weaver, to Andre Baccellia, to Trent Sherfield Sr. over the course of the season. It proved to be a massive problem for Kyler Murray and Jacoby Brissett, who manned the quarterback position this past season.

For general manager Monti Ossenfort, this can’t be the only move he makes at wide receiver this season, as Smith-Marsette won’t provide that quality depth the team seeks. After all, he sees most of his action as a kick/punt returner, not lined up as a wideout.

This will likely be the first of many moves by Ossenfort and his team to bolster their weaknesses. The Cardinals have around $30 million to work with this offseason, and don’t have to worry about notable free agents leaving.

The signing of Smith-Marsette is the first domino.
